Induction of new staff - Outline

Prior to appointment - the Recruiting Staff Process

  • E-mail sent within one day of candidate posting information on Recruitment Site to acknowledge receipt and explain that they will receive a reply regarding the application within four days.
  • Telephone interviews set up.
  • Offer e-mail contact with existing expat staff to ask specific questions.
  • Information given to staff about ABC and El Salvador at face-to-face interview.

On appointment

  • Orientation Coordinator makes contact - aim to provide settling in and living information.
  • New teacher completes accommodation survey on-line.
  • Access to the school intranet provided.
  • Head of Department/Coordinator makes contact - aim to provide academic information.
  • New Staff Handbook made available

On Arrival in El Salvador

  • Accommodation provided at Hotel
  • Information on housing and help with finding housing
  • Information on living in El Salvador and where to get things!
  • Set up bank account
  • School orientation programme – school emails and intranet.
  • Contact with an existing member of staff - buddy

Prior to Starting Term

• Information on ABC Practices and expectations with current team leaders and SMT. Practical help to getting started. Pairing up with a “colleague mentor”.

• Sessions on Assessment (include WS and PS and LS), Behaviour Management (Points Sheets and Conduct Database), Emergencies, and other school policies

  • Evaluation Form for Orientation Period completed by new arrivals and staff involved.

Prior to end of Cal 1

• Session on Cal assessements, SIMS, including work skills and personal skills, information on parents evenings etc.

  • Meeting with Headmaster regarding settling in to country and school.
